Overview

Charleston CAN is a network of self-advocates, service providers, families, and community stakeholders dedicated to making our community a better place to live for individuals with all types of disabilities.  One of Charleston CAN’s focus areas is recreation and arts.

Charleston has more to offer than most people realize for individuals with disabilities.  This guide is a collection of recreation and arts opportunities developed by Charleston CAN’s Having Fun Workgroup.  Visit [add website link] to learn more about Charleston CAN.

Organization of this guide:

This guide list opportunities that are specifically designed for individuals with disabilities.  Recognizing the diverse sets of specialized needs among various types of disabilities, this guide is divided into four general categories of disabilities: physical disabilities, intellectual and developmental disabilities, therapeutic / mental health, and other disabilities.  Per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) the goal of each of these specialized programs should be to empower individuals to seamlessly integrate themselves into everyday programs to the greatest possible extent.

Charleston CAN’s Having Fun Workgroup has compiled a list of recreation and arts opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Charleston County.  This guide list both disability specific opportunities as well as opportunities that are inclusive or at least accommodating for individuals with disabilities.
